bannerDC LIVE: CALL FOR PROPOSALS

Deadline for Proposals: Friday September 11th

\\ PROJECT STATEMENT
In February of 2016 The College Art Association Conference will occur in Washington DC. Washington DC is the center of our national government and consists of infrastructure and symbols of national identity including the National Mall, governmental buildings and monuments. Additionally, 2016 is a national election year in which our media-scape will be plastered with campaign messages. In response, the Media Lounge of CAA is sponsoring an off site project in the form of an artist walk. We seek proposals by artists who use interpretive walks and/or tours as a part of their practice and are interested in engaging with the unique context Washington DC provides.

\\ STATEMENT
MEDIA LOUNGE 2016: VISIBLE/INVISIBLE

Media Lounge is a platform that hosts discussions, workshops, screenings and off site events that investigates an annual theme of importance to artists.

This year’s theme, VISIBLE/INVISIBLE explores the legacy of identity and representation politics, considered in the context of our present culture where individuals, organizations and ideas can be easily captured, tracked, exposed, appropriated from the circulation of digital material which simultaneously feeds capitalist media assembly lines and alternative economies. Through Media Lounge programming we aim to foster a dialog centered on emerging artistic sensibilities that mix art and a politics of representation amid a transforming sociopolitical landscape. The setting of CAA 2016,  Washington DC and an election year, offers a unique opportunity to engage in these discussions.

Event Date: Saturday February 6th, 2016

Time: TBD

\\ ON SITE DETAILS AND CONSIDERATIONS
The Media Lounge is located in a function room at the Hilton Hotel for the duration of the Conference. During the DC Live walk on Saturday, access to this room and the AV equipment is at the disposal of the selected artist to develop an onsite “live presence”. We anticipate the selected artist will work with the sub-committee to develop the on site plan. This can be as simple as live tweeting during the event and having the Twitter feed on display in the room. The Media Lounge has requested two projectors or monitors and an audio system. WIFI with speeds that can stream web video is provided. Computers must be provided by presenters.

\\ LOCATION
Artists should address transportation to and from the walk location in their proposal. The conference is being held at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel 2660 Woodley Rd NW, Washington, DC 20008.
